Picsart & Monotype: A dynamic collaboration that empowers creators around the world.
Monotype and Picsart have built a partnership that’s fueling creativity for Picsart’s 150 million monthly global users. Picsart, the world’s largest digital creation platform, allows creators of all levels to design, edit, draw, and share photo and video content. The platform has amassed one of the world’s largest open-source content collections with its assortment of photos, stickers, backgrounds, templates, and more. Monotype-supplied fonts are one of the most popular elements in the creation of these content types; in 2022, fonts were used in more than 1 billion editing sessions on the Picsart platform.
Text is essential to the Picsart community. Creators use fonts to add messages to personal edits, overlay text over videos, and create a huge variety of marketing assets like social media posts, ads, and banners. Picsart initially chose Monotype as their font partner due to the foundry’s extensive font inventory, which includes not only world-famous typefaces like Arial, Helvetica, and Times New Roman but also a diverse collection of creative, stylized, and unusual typefaces that are perfect for artistic self-expression and social media promotion.
At first, Picsart sold a small selection of Monotype fonts individually or in small bundles. In 2018, in response to community member requests, Picsart unveiled a subscription option that provides subscribers with access to premium downloads. Picsart’s shift from an in-app purchasing model to a “freemium subscriber” model meant that some fonts needed to be available to everyone for free while others would be available only to subscribers of Picsart Gold.
Monotype pivoted quickly to restructure both the partnership and the font integration technology to support Picsart’s new model. Today, Monotype fonts are enabled in web versions of Picsart’s previously mobile-only editor tools and are one of the only third-party assets licensed by Picsart for their asset library. The fonts are integrated natively alongside other creative elements like stickers, filters, borders, templates, and effects. An ever-growing font inventory list covering multiple languages and countless styles affords Picsart creators incredible creative freedom when it comes to incorporating text in their designs.
As Picsart’s service and product mix have evolved, so has its partnership with Monotype. Picsart continues to choose Monotype as their font partner not just because of the foundry’s unrivaled and ever-expanding font library but also because of their shared approach and philosophy on “true partnership”. Both organizations are always open to reimagining how to work well together and emphasize the unique value fonts drive for Picsart.

The next evolution in the partnership will revolve around artificial intelligence (AI) tools, as AI helps Picsart further their mission to empower the creator in everyone around the world. “We’ve already introduced several generative AI products for both consumers and business owners. We believe that AI makes creation and design accessible for more people and increases productivity for existing creators,” Lusine Harutyunyan, Picsart’s VP of Product said.
To support future growth with AI, Monotype and Picsart are exploring ways to collaborate on new generative AI products. Harutyunyan is excited about the technology’s potential to push the boundaries of the Picsart community’s creative vision. “Fonts drive increased engagement on our platform, powering creativity for all. Our relationship with Monotype is a longstanding partnership that has combined world-class fonts with the largest visual creative platform in the world. The future of our partnership will be one where creators globally can use fonts in their creations in a multitude of expressive ways beyond what was possible in the last few years, thanks to AI.”
